Research

Our Faculty and Staff conduct community-focused research addressing health and environmental challenges in the communities where we work and live. This has both global and national impacts. For example, In Malawi, we study childhood malaria, malnutrition, and pediatric tuberculosis. Elsewhere across the globe, our research in French Guiana examines how Mycobacterium ulcerans, the pathogen that causes Buruli ulcer, persists and replicates within host and environmental microbiomes.  Here at home, OMS researchers also advance broader research on topics including: infectious diseases (like HIV/AIDS and zoonoses), injury prevention, rapid pathogen detection and more. Across these diverse areas, our research is designed to address locally relevant challenges and generate knowledge that can improve community health and well-being.
